On ramps, in the garage, awaiting service. That's just a V12's resting state.
This car has been down for too long, really...I haven't had it in a regularly driveable state in almost a year. So this weekend I'll finally get down to business and swap in the new voltage regulator, which should at least make it driveable.
After that, I've got a short list of things to fix: fuel changeover valve, sending unit for the left side fuel tank, and finally remove the stupid charcoal canister system installed when the car came over from Germany in 1989.
Also, can anybody recommend a good tire? I've got some ancient Pirellis on the car, and I love the way they look because the sidewall is so minimal. They're not dry rotted at all, but they have to be 12 years old at this point. Maybe Coker Tire has something for me? Pirelli doesn't seem to make this model anymore.
Oh, and Corvair update: some time last night on eBay, the reserve was met at $1,600. Then sometime after that, it went up to $2,025. So it's already up to 2.5x what I paid for the car...not bad for a small investment a few months ago.

Ha - I posted something Jag-related almost at the same time as you. Suffice to say if you get rear axle leaks, I can run you through what's required. Have you found terrysjag.com yet? They're very helpful.

WHITEWALLS. Kidding, though they might actually look okay. Coker Tire does have some options for blackwalls, but they're gonna be supremely expensive. We're going to have to buy two sets to get our 64 Impala and 72 Caddy on the road. (Whitewalls are mandatory for them)

are those 15s or 16s?
ive heard the debate over unavailability of appropriately sized and speed rated tires for the 15s. i imagine 16s aren't that much different.
when i had the original 15 inch lattice alloys on mine i used BF goodrich T/A radials. they didn't have the speed rating of the pirellis, but they also didn't cost 200+ a corner.
i decided to up the wheels to a larger size from a more modern jag, so the bolt patterns and offsets would still match, but the tire options would be more plentiful.
so... other than the T/As i dont have a suggestion. they get good reviews from the other xjs owners on the jag forum.

15s, I think they're some ridiculous size like a 215/75/15. SO MUCH SIDEWALL. The Goodrich is a good suggestion actually, nice plain sidewalks. Should I leave the white letters out? Probably not on this car, haha.

Yean, if you drive a 72 Caddy without whitewalls I think they impound the car, haha.

yeah... i think i ran 235/60-15s. definitely a lot of sidewall. but a little less than 75. did jaguar change the tire sizes on what the cars were shipped with over the years? thats a series 3 right? i know the XJS changed tire sizes a couple of times, even while still on the 15 inch wheels.
white lettering in.
or out.
who knows?

Yeah, it's an S3. I could be wrong on the size, it might be a 65 series. I'll check after lunch, since now I want to know
What year was your Jag? Mine is an '84, and knowing the previous owner (my grandfather), whatever is on mine is the same size as and probably manufacturer as from the factory.
I saw an XJS with raised whites, it looked ridiculous, so it would look even more ridiculous on mine.

it would run better if you had a hood ornament
then again mine isn't that great on reliability either

I've never cared for a leaper on my hood. None of my family's Jags had them when I was a kid, so it's carried over to me.

Does it have the mechanics mating call, of an unevenly balanced carburetor(s)?
( i have no idea if this was a common problem)

Nah, fuel injected. But it's a Lucas fuel injection system, so I wouldn't put it past it to become unbalanced.
